Stoddard Wells Road CITO Event – GC45NVG

March 8th, 2013

It’s getting close to that time of the year again!!

Join us Saturday, April 20th at 9:00 AM for morning pastries and cold cocktails. Trash bags and bottled water will be provided, all we need are Geocachers to stop by and pitch in. Muggles are welcomed. Last year we held this event in mid April (GC3E4NJ). That day turned out to be the hottest day in April 2012. Highs reached 99 degrees. So please be prepared if weather forecasters predict a warm weekend.

This is an “Adopt-A-Street” program, so those participating are required to submit a release form (see link below for a printable form). We’ll require to have these forms turned in the week prior to the event. Please RSVP for this event as soon as possible. Once you have RSVP’d, George (BigDaddyGRC) will contact you via email to determine the best way for you to get us the forms. If possible, scan and email them to BigDaddyGRC@GMail.com. There are other options if scanning is not one. Let him know what method would work best to get the forms to us and we will work something out. The return of these forms are very important, as those participating must have a form turned in.

Participation in the 11th Annual Cache In Trash Out will earn you a 2013 CITO Souvenir on your Geocaching profile, and quite possibly a free T-shirt! Most rewarding is participating with fellow geocachers in cleaning up this place we regard as our playground.

12-12-12 Multi-Event SoCal High Desert

September 21st, 2012

When: Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Where: Golden Corral Buffet & Grill
Private Party Room
12845 Main Street
Hesperia, CA
(Target shopping center near I-15)
Time: 6:30-8:30ish?

As part of the geocaching world-wide celebration of this unique day (which will not occur again for another hundred years), we invite you to join us for the SoCal High Desert version of the 12-12-12 Multi-Event.

Meet up for an evening of fun (including the second annual gift swap), food, and friends. You will find us in the Private Party Room at the Golden Corral Buffet & Grill. The restaurant includes an all-you-can-eat buffet for pretty reasonable prices…but you can come join us for the fun even if you don’t want to eat!

12-12-12 Unique Geocoin – This event is part of a global geocaching multi-event occurring on the same day all around the world. A beautiful trackable geocoin was designed for the event and, as a participating event host, we got to create our own uniquely-colored version for the SoCal High Desert. There will be a limited number our SoCal High Desert exclusive coins available for purchase only at the event. I will post pictures of our coin as soon as they are available!

Gift Swap – Here’s how it works:
2. Please bring one, small, inexpensive, gift-wrapped GEOCACHING-RELATED gift for the exchange.
3. You will get a ticket for the gift you bring (Only one gift per person, please).
4. The first ticket will be drawn and that person gets to pick a gift from all the choices. They will open it and show it off while everybody goes “Ohhhhh,” and “Ahhhhh…”
5. The next ticket is drawn, and that person has the choice of “stealing” the first gift or taking a new one from the pile. If the second person “steals” the first gift, then the first person gets to pick a new one from the pile.
6. The will continue for each successive ticket drawn. Each person has the choice of “stealing” somebody else’s gift, or taking a new one from the pile.
In the end, everybody who brought a gift will go home with a gift.

Other fun stuff – EVERYBODY WHO ATTENDS will get a ticket for a chance to get one of the very cool, unique, SoCal High Desert 12-12-12 Multi-Event geocoins, and some other cool stuff, too!

The gift exchange will start about 7:30 p.m. so that everybody can have a chance to meet, greet, and eat!
Hope to see you there!

Snake and Desert Critters Workshop – GC3K3W7

May 12th, 2012

Spring has sprung and the critters that call the High Desert home are active and are slithering, chirping, and hissing…… Let’s just cut to the chase….. WE are doing it again!!!

Phelan Pinon Hills Community Service District is hosting another workshop and has opened a invitation, again, to the Geocaching community. This time on a Saturday NOT mid week like last year! Workshop will be presented by Dr. Michael Glassey. Dr. Glassey is a Medical Entomologist with the United States Army, locally known as “The Snake Man”. Dr. Glassey will be providing a power point presentation and educating us on what to expect to find while out exploring the Desert. He has generously agreed to bring his living specimens for our viewing enjoyment and answer any questions anyone may have when encountering the High Desert’s inhabitants. Like that of the famous High Desert Mojave Green and other critters we need to be aware of when we are out caching in the Desert between early Spring to late Fall. High Desert Geocachers would like to invite you to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

This event will be held on:

Saturday, June 2nd from 10AM to 12:00PM
at the Phelan Community Center in Phelan CA
4176 Warbler Road, Phelan, CA 92371

Like last year, seats are limited to 50 so please “Will Attend” quickly. Please provide us the total in your group. Seats may open up the closer we get so don’t hesitate to get on a waiting list. We will immediately post any updates so keep this on your watch list. If you “Will Attend” and cannot make it, please post a note for cancellation. Should you have any questions regarding this workshop please feel free to contact George (“BigDaddyGRC”) at GCardenas@PPHCSD.org. Hope to see you there!

Introduction to Geocaching – GC360BX

November 6th, 2011

Ever had questions about geocaching and you did not have anyone to turn to for answers? Did you ever wonder what geocaching is and what all the hoopla is all about? Questions like ….. What is it when….? Why would ….? Who can…..? When do I….? Most importantly, How….? Thinking about joining Geocaching and wondering where to start? Already a geocacher and would like to pick someone’s brain?

Once again, Phelan Pinon Hills Community Services District is hosting another Geocaching related workshop with the assistance of the High Desert Geocachers Saturday, November 19th, 2011 10am to 11:30am.

We’ll cover topics like:

What is Geocaching?
How it got started
Types of Caches
Finding your First Cache
Travel Bugs and Geocoins
Caching Ethics
Hiding a Cache
GPS use, what to buy
Infamous Abbreviations

We invite everyone to attend, muggle (those that are not geocachers, taken from the Harry Potter series) and geocachers. Come meet other geocachers. We don’t claim to know it all but we may be able answer those tough questions. Challenge us, don’t be shy! After the presentation we will have some hands-on field exercises. Parking is free. Entrance is free. This event is free. It doesn’t get any better than that! :) Please act quickly, seats are limited. Please “will attend” and provide us with how many in your group. We hope to see you there!
