SoCal Mega Triangle Series

Map of the SoCal Mega-Triangle Series

The series features 38 areas comprising 35 locations with 33 perimeter caches and one centralized final cache. The area covered spans multiple cities and 4 SoCal counties. Cachers must not only find caches, but solve puzzles involving “drive-byes” where they visit an area, observe something, and answer questions to solve puzzles to obtain the final cache. The completion of this series offers points for those who want to attend the HDGC Mysteries of the Mojave Mega-Triangles event in June….
I would also like to thank all the cachers who came for the planning event and helped make up the caches for this series! THANKS EVERYBODY!

Groundspeak Acknowledges Problems with iPhone App and servers

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

(From: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=244683&st=0&p=4268991&#entry4268991)

“Yesterday Geocaching.com experienced its highest-ever traffic in a single day by a considerable margin. The resulting performance of both the site and the iPhone app has been disappointing for Groundspeak, and we sincerely apologize for the trouble you all experienced.

We have undertaken to improve the performance of our database – the biggest bottleneck at present – and are already making changes that will help us get to the bottom of these issues.

For those of you active in the other forum topics, you may be aware that Pocket Queries are suffering similar outages for the same reason (read the history of that here). We believe these problems share a common solution, and we’re working hard to get there as quickly as possible.

Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and thank you all for supporting the site through your purchase of the iPhone app! We recognize that many of you depend on the Geocaching iPhone app to be your only tool in the field. The reliability of this product, Pocket Queries and the website are our highest priority at the moment and we’re doing everything we can to address this issue.

We are actively monitoring this thread, so please feel free to comment with any errors you’re still experiencing and we will investigate. Thank you.

So those of us at the meeting on Sunday (yesterday) in Boron can breath a sigh of relief. It’s not us, it’s not our iPhones, it IS groundspeak that is at fault here, and they are aware of the problem and are working on solving it… :)

The Groundspeak Series is here!

New to the High Desert, the long awaited Groundspeak Series!  BigDaddyGRC and I, Scrabble Dogs, have been working on this for a while now, for the High Desert Geocachers as well as all others to enjoy!!  We did this as a kickoff to the new and improved High Desert Geocachers Group.  We hope that everyone has a chance to make it out here and find ‘em all, it is beautiful up here and it would be great for cachers to get together, make new friends and do this series!!!
