It's been a longtime in the planning. ScrabbleDogs & I found this series to have everything geocaching has to offer, different terrains rating, short and long hikes, 4x4, 500' Mt. climb, different container types. This may not be for everyone but I think it will to most. SWAG mostly are kids stuff they wish to trade. I think most of us don't really count on the SWAG for pursuing a find. I wish we were able to provide more SWAG but the recession affected us as well. It's the adventure of the find that most of us shoot for. Even so, some of the containers make it great to place in this kind of landscape. Enjoy your time out here. Go caching!

Steffen: I have added a link to the HTML event in the article's last paragraph. You didn't explain which part you didn't understand, but I would hedge a bet it was the comment about "teaching HTML". HTML is the underlying language which is used to program most web pages you surf. There are many subsets and addons with HTML including scripting languages like JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, and others.. All things that anyone interested can put into Google to learn more about. Straight HTML 4.0 (sans DHTML) and the CSS extensions are all the webpage code types that Groundspeak allows us to use to program our listings. While you can do some things with this, it definitely limits our options for page interactivity and animation quite a bit. There are some workarounds I have devised for adding animation that Groundspeak can't interfere with but it also still stays within the realm of very limited use of their bandwidth which is I believe their objective, because the more data that flows out of their system (to accommodate the larger data width needs of animation), the more expensive their power bill, the more wear on their hardware, and the greater the capacity of processor power and internet connection they will need to step up to such demands. Are they being cheap or just thrifty so they don't have to increase fees? Hard to tell if you're not running the ship! Hope that addresses your question and then some.

I learned about this series when Jeremy posted it on his Facebook page. I'm confused though about the name Groundspeak Series. The GX symbol is NOT a Groundspeak symbol at all. Its not theirs. Its not copyrighted to them. The GX symbol was a public domain symbol created in 2002 by independent geocachers looking for a symbol they could use without Groundspeaks copyright rules. The symbol is used by geocachers who use other geocaching websites too. Not just geocaching.com.

When I posted something similar to above on Jeremy's Facebook post, he ended up deleting his whole entire post. I'm not sure why though.

So why was it called the Groundspeak series when you did NOT use the Groundspeak logo shape? lol Seems it should be called the Geocaching Series since that's the logo shape you used.

George, you can say that again! Countless social networking apps already let you know when your friends are nearby but the Groundspeak app can't automatically notify you if other cachers are nearby using the app going after the same cache or neighboring ones? There are so many cool things that can be done by combining the geocaching GPS aspects with the talents of a phone with internet access yet they let almost every obvious feature it lacks slip by.. How about the simple ability to press a button to set a waypoint where you are standing? That's just really basic stuff and the app completely lacks it. No features included for hiding, yet that is half the game... Too much to ask for automated hiding in the app? It should take down your GPS coordinates when you push a button, and all the other info and submit a page for you in the field. Then it could ask you to walk away a few times and come back and press the button each time on GZ to average the readings for you. Why not? [OK, rant over]

Tell me about it. I was finally able to get the App to work later that day after the Boron Event. The queries ended up poping up in my email later in the day. You would think they saw this coming, more activity as more members go Premium. I would like to see them do a selection by window instead of a radius from a cache. Get it going lackeys, its been a decade!!!

We started trekking the series today - got 14 found before our bodies told us it was time to stop (we had already hiked to RHINO's "Kings Chair" earlier (about 4 miles) so we started out a bit tired)! Awesome area to hike in with great views. Seemed like we had the area to ourselves, except for a few dirt bike riders. Probably won't be that way on the weekend! Thanks again guys for a great caching experience!!
