The Groundspeak Series is here!
New to the High Desert, the long awaited Groundspeak Series! BigDaddyGRC and I, Scrabble Dogs, have been working on this for a while now, for the High Desert Geocachers as well as all others to enjoy!! We did this as a kickoff to the new and improved High Desert Geocachers Group. We hope that everyone has a chance to make it out here and find ‘em all, it is beautiful up here and it would be great for cachers to get together, make new friends and do this series!!!

I am about half done with the Groundspeak Series. It is a great series that was artfully planned. The caches are all unique. No repeat schwag. There are several different types of containers used to mix it up. The LookOut cache at the top of the mountain is well worth the difficult climb. The cache up there is well sized with a huge 360º view to offer overlooking all of the Groundspeak Series caches, and far beyond even as far as Barstow. Lots of stuff to discover up there too, including many types of fossils make it an expedition worthy of the high level of effort required to summit the peak. So far, I would say the series lives up to the expectations created in my mind when the owner rolled it out for public consumption at the last HDGC meeting in Victorville. Lastly, I would say the best time to visit it is definitely on a weekday/evening when the muggles are not tooling around on their quads, 4×4s and dirt bikes. They tend to camp out near the west edge of the series making those grabs somewhat uncomfortable or difficult on the weekends…

I learned about this series when Jeremy posted it on his Facebook page. I’m confused though about the name Groundspeak Series. The GX symbol is NOT a Groundspeak symbol at all. Its not theirs. Its not copyrighted to them. The GX symbol was a public domain symbol created in 2002 by independent geocachers looking for a symbol they could use without Groundspeaks copyright rules. The symbol is used by geocachers who use other geocaching websites too. Not just geocaching.com.
When I posted something similar to above on Jeremy’s Facebook post, he ended up deleting his whole entire post. I’m not sure why though.
So why was it called the Groundspeak series when you did NOT use the Groundspeak logo shape? lol Seems it should be called the Geocaching Series since that’s the logo shape you used.
